The US Constitution provides freedom OF religion in that Americans are free to practice any religion they wish, or none at all. Even when candidates are sworn in, they are NOT required to put their hand on the Bible, or any other religious text, unless they choose to. They are only required to pledge an oath to uphold the US Constitution.
As conservatives, we here at NT are appalled at the bigotry seen with the recent attacks on elected Democrats who are of the Muslim faith, such as NY Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Michigan Senator-Elect Dr. Abdul El-Sayed.
Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) recently questioned a witness, Amanda Tyler, Executive Director of the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty, about Sharia Law and the U.S. before the House Judiciary Committee.
Ms. Tyler beautifully explains exactly what Sharia Law is and isn’t, and whether it could ever be mandated by the government, or if it has ever been proposed anywhere in the country, by anyone.
Bottom line is, the US Constitution forbids the government from the imposition of any religious doctrine on the public. Fears that John F. Kennedy would turn us all into the Catholics were unfounded.
Religious ‘law’ is merely religious doctrine that those who adopt their respective religions choose to live by. These doctrines have nothing to do with government law.
