It’s no secret that Rep. Ilhan Omar, an immigrant from Somalia who is a legal citizen, has been the subject of smears and ridicule from the MAGA movement, egged on by Trump himself.
Unfounded conspiracy theories that she ‘married her brother’ or ‘hates America’ continually circulate on social media, propped up by Trump who has been attacking her publicly for years.
Now, Trump has turned his DOJ on her and they have raided her home in DC.
The investigation supposedly is in relation to and investigation of her family’s immigration paperwork or to investigate other issues, such as Ms. Omar’s finances, campaign funds and interactions with a foreign citizen, as The New York Times previously reported.
Interestingly, Ms. Omar was investigated under the Biden administration and nothing illegal was found.
Further, there is no credible proof or substantiated evidence that Representative Ilhan Omar married her brother. The allegation—that Omar’s 2009 legal marriage to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi (a British-Somali citizen) was actually to her biological brother as a scheme for immigration benefits—has circulated since around 2016. It originated in anonymous posts on Somali online forums and was amplified by conservative blogs and political opponents. Omar has repeatedly denied it, calling the claims “absurd and offensive,” “absolutely false and ridiculous,” and “disgusting lies.”
The claim remains an unproven allegation after years of scrutiny by journalists and fact-checkers. Political figures (including President Trump and others) have repeated it, but without presenting new documentary evidence that meets basic standards of proof. The burden of substantiation rests with those making the claim; it has not been met.

– February 2009: Legal marriage to Elmi in Hennepin County, Minnesota. She has described him as a British citizen; the marriage certificate lists him as three years younger.
– 2011: Religious separation from Elmi; he reportedly returned to the UK. They remained legally married.
– 2012: Reconciliation with Hirsi and birth of a third child.
– December 2017: Legal divorce from Elmi finalized.
– January 2018: Legal marriage to Hirsi (they later divorced in 2019). She subsequently married Tim Mynett.
We find it ironic that the brother of a person who is now spending millions to prop up MAGA candidates admitted publicly that he and his brother came here under false pretenses. Kimbal Musk has publicly stated that he and his brother Elon initially worked in the country as “illegal immigrants”. Elon Musk is the immigrant who has taken $38 billion in government subsidies to prop up his various businesses and who benefits from many government contracts. The minimum $38 billion lifetime total is widely considered an undercount. It excludes heavily classified defense programs, undisclosed local municipal grants, and the broader financial impact of the $7,500 federal consumer tax credits that lower retail prices for Tesla buyers.
A word about Trump targeting political enemies
It is no secret that Trump admires dictators that have full control and lifelong installment as their country’s leaders such as she Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin. and Kim Jong-un. Trump has publicly stated in the past that he wants people to bow down to him like they do to Kim Jong, leader of one of the poorest countries on earth, and whose subjects hold photos of him and cry in the streets when they see him pass by. Trump has also has stated that he admires the way Putin can just get rid of his political opponents by having them killed.
Former White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham wrote in her 2021 memoir that behind closed doors, Trump “admired” Putin’s ability to “kill whoever”. Grisham stated that Trump feared and was intimidated by Putin, while simultaneously desiring the ability to eliminate anyone who spoke out against him, including members of the press.
We wonder if having them investigated is just not the first step leading to same?
