One of the deadliest mass-shootings in US history was carried out by a Trump supporter who was literally inspired to kill after attending a Trump rally.
MAGAt Patrick Crusius, a mass murderer and white supremacist currently serving multiple consecutive life sentences without parole for the August 3, 2019, El Paso Walmart shooting.
Driven by anti-immigrant extremism, he murdered 23 people and injured 22 others in one of the deadliest hate crimes against Latinos in U.S. history.
Minutes before starting the massacre, he posted a manifesto titled “An Inconvenient Truth” on the online forum 8chan. The writing detailed his white nationalist beliefs and warned of a “Hispanic invasion of Texas”. He explicitly stated he targeted El Paso to kill Hispanic people and discourage them from immigrating to the United States.
Crusius told his legal team that a major catalyst occurred while watching a televised Trump rally in Panama City Beach, Florida, in May 2019. During that rally, Trump asked how to stop migrants from crossing the border. When an audience member shouted “Shoot them!”, the crowd laughed, and Trump smiled, joking that you could only get away with that statement in the Florida Panhandle. According to Spencer, Crusius purchased his weapon online just one month after viewing this exchange.
